Also new this morning - for the first time... we are hearing the "final" words of "william lecroy."

This comes just three days after he was executed here in terre haute.

News 10's jordan kudisch witnessed the entire thing.

She joins us now in studio... with his final message.

Minutes before "lecroy" was pronounced dead..

He was given the opportunity to give a final statement.

At the time..

He "confidently" said..

"sister battista is about to receive in the postal service my last statement."

Another journalist told me..

That "lecroy" did not like journalists..

And didn't want to make a performance out of his final statement.

That's why it sent i n the mail.

Yesterday for the "first" time..

She read that letter aloud to us.

B}: "we have a long history of standing up against the death penalty, opposing the destruction of life."

J}: that's how she started the conversation.

She then unfolded a letter... written..

And sent to her personally..

From "lecroy."

A portion of it read... b}: "without carefully considering the consequences of our actions, we did things that we were unable to take back., harmed another human being, ourselves and so many others who loved us and who loved that human being too."

J}: the letter often referenced quotes by "shakespeare" and other famous "playwrights."

B}: "the web of our life is a mingeled yarn good and evil together.

No one is completely good, no one is completely evil."

J}: the letter was written in pencil..

In small writing..

But his words filled the page front and back.

Sister battista ended by sharing her thoughts on the dealth pentalty.

B}: "the violence inflicted on him, tuesday night, affects us all.

Certaintly affected joann teisler when she was so viciously murdered."

I would invite us all to take wills words and ponder what it might mean for us to live into that love, that mercy, that justice that is about becoming a better human being."

It seemed as though "lecroy" held a close relationship to battista.

She says in their final conversation ... he had "clear eyes"..
