New opportunity for Camp Fire survivors to heal on the two year anniversary

There is going to be new opportunity for healing for Camp Fire survivors, this will be on the two year anniversary of the deadly fire.

New at 5:30 - a new opportunity for healing for camp fire survivors..

Action news now reporter amy lanski shows us how an art project offers many camp fire survivors a chance to let go and move forward.

Jess mercer is an artist from paradise.

She built a phoenix out of donated keys for the first anniversary of the camp fire.

This year she is building the 'ridge wellness project - a well that people can toss personal in to help with their camp fire recovery.

"my goal is for people to write letters about resilency, about thanks, maybe an illustrations about emotion or something they are experiencing.

The most about it is the recovery process and how they have gone through that."

Mercer says she'll be head to to in ppe and people can hand their letters to her or toss it in themselves.

"this is my way of saying let's put those stories together and see if they benefit other people.

The most heartfelt thing i have seen since the camp fire is how our survivors helped people going through the bear fire, and the zogg fire, and the medford fire, and all over."

Mercer is making the well out of electrical spools for a reason.

"for me using an electrical wire spool is my way of harnessing my anger.

I am mad at an electric company, so i am going to use that in my art, but i am going to make it beautiful."

Amy standup: "jess says this is going to be one of the poles to hold up the roof and protect the letters."

"so the spool is going to be the main center piece it is going to be surrounded by beautiful daffodils.

The main spool here is kind of like the bucket, but a little play of it on course.

I have got some old shutters that is going to make a beautiful roof once i age those out.

A nice pole so you can do the spool and wire itself, it is going to look like a really vintage piece."

The well will be up and runing on november 8th only from 10am to 4.
