It is the calm voice on a caller's worst day.

The job of 911 dispatcher - or as they are known - telecommunicator - can be chaotic and stressful.

But it is appreciated.

This morning a member of the oktibbeha county emergency management team was honored as telecommunicator of the year.

Wcbi's bobby martinez spoke to the winner who says he is honored to be of service.

Hard work... sot - jarvis boys - deputy director - oktibbeha county emergency management "he's one of the young men that i can say that has shown himself to be approved in this line of work.."

And dedication in the the community..

Sot - paul harkins - president, mississippi 911 coordinators association "not only is he a telecommunicator and dispatcher there at the 911 center, but he also has branched out into the public helping the community as a volunteer fire fighter."

Has come with a honorable award for connor maynard.

Telecommunicator of the year.

Which caught him by surprise..

Sot - connor - maynard - telecommunicator of the year "i was very shocked, i had no idea this was a possibility."

It was in 2016 when maynard joined the oktibbeha county emergency management team..

And since then..

He has been the perfect team player according to oktibbeha county emergency management deputy director jarvis boyd..

Sot - jarvis boys - deputy director - oktibbeha county emergency management "he has worked tirelessly hours he has shown that he is loyal to our agency in oktibbeha county.

Not just the care of the first responders but the care of the citizens which is our main priority to make sure that the citizens are taken care of."

To maynard...being of service to those citizens at all times... is the main reason why he decided to join this line of work.

"it's truly a remarkable feeling when everything comes together.

You do have the cause where not everything works out the way you want it to, that's just how it goes.

But when everything does come together and i am able to make a difference in somebody's day very quickly, it makes me feel fantastic."

But to maynard... he says he wouldn't be able to do his job to the best of his ability... if it wasn't for the great team around him..

"the people i work with are truly remarkable.

There's not a single person that i work with that can't do this job.

We all take care of each other we all care for each other very very deeply.

We make sure that everybody is taken care of, we are a family at the end of the day."
