Traffic fatalities across the state of minnesota are on the rise.

In hopes of helping to keep our roads safe ?

"* the minnesota state patrol is hiring more troopers.

State patrol recently received bonding bill money from the state legislature to make these hires possible.

Kimt news 3's annalise johnson joins us live with what you need to know about becoming a trooper.

"* i'm here at the minnesota state patrol rochester headquarters.

They're looking to hire 60 troopers.

Half of those troopers will be traditional applicants ?

"* and the other half will be law enforcement training opportunity ?

"* or "leto" applicants.

I'll break down the differences between the two... traditional applicants already have a law enforcement background.

They receive a full base trooper salary while going through the 15 week trooper training academy.

"leto" is a program unique to the minnesota state patrol.

It's for people with 2 or 4 year degrees in a non?

"*lw enforcement discipline.

Trainees go through 23 weeks of training plus the training academy.

Tuition is paid for by state patrol and trainees are paid 80% of the base salary of a state trooper.

Many of them were injured through car or motorcycle crashes ?
