But some parents say they're frustrated with what they call a lack of communication during a school coronavirus outbreak.

Action news now reporter kristian lopez is live in gridley -- kristian, what have you learned?

Mixed reactions from parents today some told me they are upset& saying that the school did not notify them about the case.

Others say the are not worried about it.

Tammy carr/gridley unified parent: i think we should focus not that there is one student at gridley high that has it but that there are 600 that don't.

Anonymous parent: i don't think they are handling it properly i don't think that's the right way to go about it.

Gridley high school parents are divided when it comes to how the school is handling its first coronavirus case.

Tammy carr/gridley unified parent: i believe they are doing the best they can to follow the rules and have our kids in school.

Anonymous parent: i think they handled it very poorly why not reach out to the parents.

One parent who did not want to be identified says she thinks the school is not doing enough to keep students safe.

Anonymous parent: there shouldn't be anymore than 10 or 15 kids and why not have a morning class and afternoon class.

What's the problem with that so that there's less of a chance itll spread then we can keep the doors open.

As soon as they get out of their classes they are taking the masks off, that should be monitored.

Tammy carr/gridley unified parent: there are a lot more things i'm worried about for my son besides covid 19.

Kristian bridge (haven't shot this yet): i stopped by superintendent jordan reeves' office here at the gridley unified school district.

He did not want to go on camera but addressed these concerns.

Reeves told me the average class size at the high school is 20 students.

Some classes are larger and some are smaller.

He says there are air purifiers in the class and items have been taken out to allow for social distancing.

He says masks are enforced to the best of their ability but they cannot control what the students do during the open lunch period.

Tammy carr/gridley unified parent: obviously we can follow protocols and use common sense but i think taking care of kids and having them be in school.

That's where they need to be.

# butte county public health says each school has its own coronavirus communication plan.

Here in gridley if someone is identified through contract tracing they will receive a notification from butte county public health.

Reeves says that lunches are staggered at some of the other schools.
