Today, bronson cardiologist doctor michael pack donated his plasma here at the versiti blood center with the hopes of helping covid-19 patients recover faster.

Doctor michael pack recently recovered from covid-19.

Now his plasma, filled with antibodies can be used to fight off the infection.

Pack says he is donating his plasma because he wants to do his part to get the virus under control.

So hospitals like his, don't get overwhelmed with pateints again.

Dr. michael pack/ bronson cardiologist "we want to continue to provide the care that we can, however if we have no beds, that's going to eliminate or hurt our ability to provide an adequate level of care to our community."

Hospitals across the country are using convalescent plasma as a form of therapy to help patients battling the coronavirus.

According to the versiti blood center, 200 michiganders have donated their plasma to help over two thousand patients.

Dr. dan waxman/ versiti vice president of transfusion medicine "here is something that local residents of michigan who have recovered thankfully from covid can donate this plasma and they can do it as often as every week and then they are able to help a number of patients over several months."

Doctor pack says if someone with covid-19 comes into the hospital and has trouble breathing, they can be given the plasma in addition to viral drugs which can help them recover quicker.

He says as covid-19 cases continue to rise in michigan, the need for therapies becomes greater.

Michael pack/ bronson cardiologist "i know other hospitals have now had to import plasma because the local supply has been reduced and because there are surges it is needed.

We would encourage people who have recovered and are healthy enough to go ahead and make that final step and donate."

Trisha mccauley/ @trishawwmt doctor pack says it was simple and easy to donate his plasma.

He says it takes about 30 to 40 minutes and people can donate every week.

Coming up on mom to mom, mandy has a creative way to for you and your family to experience fall activites.

éé mom to mom is after the break.

éé the cooler weather is finally here and mandy wants to make sure you and family can enjoy the fall season with a bucket list.éé from raking leaves to picking out pumpkins there are several activities to choose from.

éé today on mom to mom, we're going to show you how to make a cute fall diy bucket list in my house, fall is one of our favorite seasons, but usually there's a lot to do.

You've got pumpkin picking, carving pumpkins, going to corn mazes.

There's just a lot, and it's hard for us to decide on the weekends.

That's why when i came across this really cool idea from natural beach living, it is a diy fall bucket list kit.

Basically, it's really easy and simple to do, and you can do it with your family, is you find a bucket where you can get at any craft store, find some corn kernels, it can be any kind, there's all different types, some that i didn't even know existed.

You can get a fun chalkboard if you want so you can write fall bucket list on there, some popsicle sticks, and of course, some utensils to write with.

Then you grab the kids and you write on these popsicles what it is that you want to do for the season.

Do you want to go pick out a pumpkin?

Do you want to pick out a costume?

Do you want to help rake the leaves and then jump in them?

These are the kinds of things that we like to do, and just helps us make that decision so much easier and it's a whole lot of fun.

So this fall diy bucket list is really fun to enjoy on the weekends, your kids just pull one out and then you go do that activity.

This is just a fun, easy way to gather the family together and do those fall things that you love to do.

As always moms, if you have those great, wonderful ideas, we'd love to hear them.

You can post them to our facebook page and we'll see you on the next mom to mom.

For many of us, it's our favorite time of year.

éé hot chocolate, pumpkin spice, and fall weather.éé but have you ever wondered why leaves change colors in the fall?

Meteorologist trevor birchett explains in this week's weather whys.éé the first week of november is the peak for fall colors in north mississippi and west alabama, and you may have already seen some of the vibrant colors in the trees.

But what causes those shades of red and orange that we love so much?

Well, lets first start with why leaves are their normal shade of green.

Cells of chlorophyll, which help to provide nutrients for the trees, saturate the leaves and give them that green hue.

Since chlorophyll cells thrive on sunlight, as the days get shorter, the cells slowly stop producing their green color and allow a more natural color to shine through.

Different components of the leaves can turn them shades of yellow, red, or orange, which becomes more evident as the chlorofyll fades away.

Eventually though, as temperatures decrease, the leaves die off and fall to the ground.

So there is really only a short window to enjoy these fall colors.

If you happen to see some majestic fall foliage, please send your photos our way so we can share!

And remember, if you are curious about an aspect of how the weather works, you can reach out to us via email or social media to have your question answered.

Injuries and athletics go hand in hand.

It simply comes with the territory of playing sports.

Two caledonia volleyball players know all about it.

Take a look at how the duo turned their injury problems into a positive.

"always work volleyball captain and outside hitter zoe hansen gave her teammate libby mcmurphy after mcmurphy suffered a hip injury ending her junior campaign.

Oddly enough, hansen was just returning back to full strength following a season-ending ankle injury during her sophomore season.

That's only one example of the strong relationship between the pair.

Hansen: "actually since 5th grade, we started playing club volleyball together.

She was my first friend in volleyball."

After years of playing volleyball together, mcmurphy moved away to texas in tenth grade, but returned to caledonia the following year.

Now the two seniors reflect on how a friendship that was rooted years ago in club ball grew even stronger through their high school injury struggles.

Mcmurphy: "we got to connect a little bit more and relate to each other because zoe got hurt a few more times than i did.

That was the only time i've ever been hurt in my life while playing sports or anything so she talked me through it.

Helped me get through everything."

Hansen: "it made us a lot closer because i realized i knew what she was going through.

How she couldn't play and i just know that feeling.

I was just trying to bring her upbeat because it is the worst feeling to not be able to play."

Mcmurphey: "she pretty much told me to just keep my head up and try to think about all the positives that come out of it.

I still have a whole another year to play after all that.

She said just look forward to club season because i would be ready to play then.

Just told me to try my hardest to get back out there."

That's exactly what mcmurphey did!

With both players back to 100%, the two seniors led caledonia to a second round appearance in the playoffs.

While it wasn't an ideal end to their journey, the two say they wouldn't change it for the world.

Mcmurphey: "we were called triple threat or something like that.

We had another girl who we all just played well together.

It's been great to actually have a chance to comeback and play with her for the last few years because she's probably one of the best volleyball players i've ever played with."

Hansen: "we have been through so much together and so many years.

It's been crazy.

It's been awesome playing with her and be able to see each other grow.

Learn.

It's been amazing."
