Rebirth of Honey Run Covered Bridge nears full sight
The rebirth of the Honey Run Covered Bridge is in full sight.

On sunday we'll mark two years since camp fire roared through butte county..

One of butte county's crown jewels was destroyed by those flames action news now anchor debbie cobb joins us now -- debbie how far has this community come as it works to rebuild a very prominant land mark?

The rebirth of the honey run covered bridge is in full sight..

This week i (debbie) had a chance to meet with the people responsible for rebuilding the iconic structure..

And get a close-up look at the progress.

Sot in:robert catalan 33-:53 "you can see we have abuttments..

On each side..

Concrete poured..

Framing off..

New pillars on each side..

Bolts fastened when floor comes across..

Sometime in april."

It's a big difference from just one year ago..

It was still a dream..

On paper...and as we travel back in time, november 8th, 2018..

The fire..

Taking the beloved wooden bridge..

And before that..

The bridge built in 1886..

Spanned 240 feet across the majestic butte creek..

Walt schafer is vice president of the honey run covered bridge association..

And is in charge of fundraising..

His heart is into this project..

He's lived in the area 42 years... and knows what the bridge*means to this community..

Walt @ 1:39 we have seen many people come by to the ruins..

Heartbroken..

And in tears..

Wedding here..

Celebrations of various kinds..

We hear lots of stories..

People who have vivid memories here."

And he knows new memories will be made again..

The new covered bridge will be as close as historially possible to the old one..

With a few modifications..

To bring it to modern design standards..

They also have to work within an environmental window..

Because of the salmon in the creek..

So phase 2 will begin in the spring..

Robert c 1:36 - 1:52 "our schedule is hopefully we'll have the floor and the bridge up by end of next summer money permitting..

And then phase 3 covering of bridge and redesign of the park and done with that by the end of summer of 22.

" debbie stand up: " this $2.8 million project truly a labor of love..

Paid for by donations..

Donations ranging from $10.

To $250-thousand dollars."

The association has raised 1.1 million dollars..

1.7 is needed to complete the project..

Sot-mike fitzsimmons - hrcb treasurer :07 -:22 "it's overwhelming the checks we get checks in from all around the country..

Just mind boggling the support we've gotten."

And this week the butte county board of supervisors voted to hand over the right of way and the piece of land to the left of the bridge..

A bridge that represents both hope..

And..

Good will..

We should probably note..

Some people on the committee to rebuild the bridge..

Also lost their own homes..

And were rebuilding their homes at the same time..

But continued to be inspired by the generosity of locals and businesses.
