Utica Zoo brings in holiday cheer

The utica zoo is rockin' the night away by beginning its winter celebration called "bright nights at the zoo".

Newschannel2's chelsea sherrod is live in studio with the details.

Good evening caitlin, the day after thanksgiving means all eyes are set on winter holiday celebrations.

The coronavirus pandemic has forced many holiday events to either cancel or go virtual this year, but today, the utica zoo began to spread cheer with bright nights at the zoo for guests in- person.

With holiday music playing, people of all ages walked into the zoo, wearing masks and keeping a distance between groups to experience the magic of the season with a variety of l-e- d light displays.

The displays include: the bright nights entrance, gum drop candy land cottage,mr. and mrs. claus at the north pole and a variety of celebrations representing the mohawk valley's diverse community.

Young visitors are not able to sit on santa's lap this year but they'll be able to send their wishes directly to him by dropping them into his mialbox.

I like the lights and the animals?

I like th ezebras, the most part.

I saw them from the car.

And what did you tell santa?

I just told him my name, i didn't have the listwito not change, it's 8 dollars for adults, 5 dollars for kids.

This event is held every thursday through sunday evening, 5 p-m to 8 p- m from now until january 3 depending on the status on the pandemic.
