The South Adams Starfires are gearing up to play Covenant Christian in their first ever state finals appearance on Saturday.
Welcome back boys and girls... well when you hear coaches talk about particular players or classes, you hear the word special thrown around quite a bit.."these kids are special"..
"this group is special"..a lot of times it's hyperbole..i mean not every group of kids can be special, right?
Otherwise the word starts to lose meaning..but in the case of the south adams starfires, this senior class truly is something special...before they stepped on campus, the stars had only recorded four winning seasons since the turn of the century..but over the last four years, south adams is 39-7, and tomorrow, they'll play in a state championship game for the first time in program history..of course the starfires have been ranked number one in the state for the mjaority of the season..
They're 13-0, coming off a 42- 9 dismantling of defending state champion lafayette central catholic in semi- state..after falling short in regionals last year, these seniors made it their mission to play their final high school football game at lucas oil stadium..and on saturday, james arnold and company will get a chance to do just that..
3 so tomorrow will be a new experience for the starfires... but the same can be said about their opponenet..covenant christian is also making its first appearance in the state finals..the warriors sport a perfect 14-0 record..they too are coming off a dominant semi- state win, 55-8 over fourth ranked west washington...these two teams look a lot alike on paper..covenant christian averages 53 points per game, south adams averages 47..the warriors are holding opponents to 10 points a content, the stars are holding theirs to nine..and the stars see a lot of similarities on film too... yeah kickoff at lucas oil stadium is set for 11 a.m.
