Former fda commissioner scott gottlieb warns the nationwide surge in cases and deaths may not peak until january.

There is renewed optimism about yet ?another?

Coronavirus stimulus package.

??

After months of back-and-forth, house speaker nancy pelosi and senate majority leader mitch mcconnell are closing in on the framework for a deal.

??

Nancy cordes has the latest from capitol hill.

??

Script: nat shopping, or lack of it this is normally peak shopping season.

But the new numbers tell a grim story.

The retail industry shed another 35 thousand jobs last month -- 550 thousand since the pandemic began.

People are falling into poverty because of our inaction!

Congress has been gridlocked over more relief since may.

But suddenly, leaders are talking -- and expressing new optimism they can cut a deal fast.

There is momentum.

Compromise is within reach.

Their talks come as a 908 billion dollar bipartisan framework gains traction from both sides.

The plan would provide an additional $300 a week for the unemployed.

And it would help small businesses and state governments bridge the gap until the economy improves.

Realistically, how soon do you need to cut a deal in order to have a package to vote on before the holidays?

We have the time to do it.

The proposal does not include another round of $1200 stimulus checks for americans whose income has taken a hit.

It's thirty thousand less than what i was making.

Carrie mansfield of irving texas lost her auto repair job in may...and only found a new one after sending out 150 applications.

We need that stimulus money to boost us consumers to get out there and start buying.

Right now, my christmas, we're not buying anything this year.

Congressional leaders would like to attach any deal they come up with to a government funding bill that is supposed to pass next week.

And norah i'm told top house and senate aides are going to ambitious deadline.

Weekend, trading proposals, in an attempt to meet that very ambitious deadline.

I'm nancy cordes on capitol hill.

It's time to take control of those backseat spills and stains.

Mandy turns an shower caddy into a food holder to keep the car clean.

??

Mom to mom is after the break, stay with us.

??

As a parent it can be tough to keep the backseat clean from your little ones.

??

On this week's mom to mom, mandy show us how to prevent everyday messes with a very simple tool.

??

Does it get a thumbs up or a thumbs down?

Take a look.

??

Today on mom to mom, we have another creative use for the dollar store shower caddy this past summer, we were making a very long road trip with our kids and we decided to make good time and stop through a fast food restaurant and get our kids some food, as we were heading to our destination.

But when we got there, i opened up the back and i see french fries all over the place, half a burger on the floor, catsup on the backseat.

I don't even know how these things happen.

So with that being said, i was inspired to find a solution to the mess that my kids created in my backseat and i happen to come across this shower caddy from the dollar store and it's amazing.

So basically, you take your fast food that comes like this.

Kids normally stick it in their lap.

Well, it has the potential to go everywhere, like it was.

So what december is here and the official start of winter is just a few weeks away.

??

While we normally get rain here, we can sometimes see snow, sleet, or even freezing rain.??

But why do we see so many different precipitation types in the winter?

Meteorologist trevor birchett explains.

??

The atmosphere is complex on any day of the week, but even more so during the winter months.

In the winter, we care not only about what the temperature is at the surface, but how hot or cold it is thousands of feet above our heads.

This is what determines what type of precipitation we get.

For starters, if the entire atmosphere is above freezing, the water in the cloud will fall as just liquid rain and and not have a chance to freeze.

On the other hand, if the entire atmosphere is below freezing, the moisture in the cloud will freeze and we'll see snow.

Now this is where it gets complicated.

Sometimes, the air far above us is warm, but closer to the surface, it's below freezing.

This means the water will start out liquid, as rain, but will re-freeze once it gets closer to the surface.

This results in small ice pellets, or sleet, hitting the ground.

Sleet is the type of precipitation that makes a lot of noise as it falls since it's frozen solid.

Now, let's say most of the atmosphere is above freezing, but it gets cold right at the surface.

Winds will be a bit breezy out of the northwest on monday but will subside through the week.

Friday-sunday: clouds will return to the area for friday and the weekend as our next weather system approaches.

Most of the day friday looks to remain dry, but showers are possible by the evening.

We'll likely see more showers on saturday which could even last into early sunday.

High temperatures will remain in the 60s for friday and saturday, but we'll be in for another cool down by sunday with temperatures dipping back into the 50s.

Overnight lows will remain near 40.
