Starkville police helping troops overseas

The Starkville Police Department is wanting to help members of the military overseas during the Christmas holiday.

The department chose sneakers for soliders,,, a nonprofit group accepting donations to provide sneakers to soldiers fighting overseas... this if the first year the department picked sneakers for soldiers as its angel christmas tree recipient... animal control officer brandy johnson said she felt this was a safe way for people to give this christmas... she said people can donate monetarily online, but added people need to note the starkville police department when making the donation... johnson helped chose this year's angel tree organization and said her mission is to make christmas special for everyone fighting for us.... ."

Not all of them get a package throughout the year so it really lets them know that we care about them and that we're thinking of them and we support them in any way that we can."

Johnson said the department will continue to accept donations through january.
