The Oregon Department of Human Services will take the lead role of housing those displaced by the Almeda and Obenchain Fires.

Right now these operations are being handled by the american red cross.

In october, d-h-s contracted with the red cross to continue shelter management through the end of the year.

With that contract now expiring, d-h-s will now be responsible for supporting sheltering and emergency assistance.

People staying in the shelters were notified of the change as their food was delivered over the weekend.

In a statement released today, d-h-s says "as we at o-d-h-s take responsibility from the red cross, we remain committed to ensuring each person impacted by the september oregon wildfires has access to temporary shelter and three meals a day."

Each staff person will work with five hotels in their area and will be the main contact for each person in shelter and hotels and will visit regularly.
