Race for 22nd Congressional District continues

Boards of elections in the 22nd Congressional District continue canvassing ballots.

As boards of elections, candidates, lawyers and a judge continue tclosy examine disputed exine dispud ballots in e race for the 22nd strictseat, id more possible that people living in the district might start the new year without a congressional representative.

Newschannel 2's joleen ferris has the latest on what's happening this weekend and next week, to try and make sure that doesn't happen.

Stand up .

None "the oneida county boe's canvas of affadavit ballots in the 22nd district congressional race is on pause.

They plan to resume monday with a more streamlined method, here, at mvcc in utica, which will give them more room for social distancing" 4:27 "over the weekend startign today then through saturdray and sunday, the boe is gonna go through all 1700 ballots and check to see what the registration data shows as to each one of those.

" with registration data from both republican challenger, claudia tenney, and democrat incumbent congressman, anthony brindisi which should jive because they got it from the state, the oneida county boe hopes to know which of the 1700 affadavit ballots in question are valid...and show up monday to count them and let the candidates look over them for any other objections 5:02 "and then on monday, we'll start here's ballot #1 and the candidates will be present , we object to this, because you can object for other reasons besides residency" the goal is to quickly put the counted, undisputed ballots aside and present the judge, tentatively on wednesday, with only disputed ballots that require his consideration.

Even once he rules, this may not be over 11:17 "whatever the judge decides is subject to appeal" 11:35 "when the higher court considers it, if that happens, the higher court has to have a record of what happened before judge del conte.

And putting together that record, is, believe me, a huge pain in the neck and takes some time" with the amount of resources both campaigns have put into the legal process so far, and with the two currently only separated by 12 votes.

Attorney rossi thinks it's likely the candidate that comes out behind at the state supreme court level would appeal.

Making it likely that voters would start 2021 without a congressional representative.
