VINCENT — Residents of St.
Vincent and the Grenadines have been warned they may have to evacuate their homes within 24 hours as a volcano that was dormant for decades shows signs of erupting.
The La Soufriere volcano is located on the island of Saint Vincent.
The Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency announced on its website that scientists observed an "effusive eruption within the crater, with visible gas and steam" on Dec.
29.
The West Indies Seismic Research Unit said in a statement posted on Facebook that a new lava dome formed from fresh magma at the base of the volcano's crater on the same day.
