And i'm najahe sherman our coverage begins in the shoals - where we learned more about the state's vaccine distribution process.

City and county leaders in the shoals talke about vaccines and the covid situation facing the northwest part of the state.

Waay31's breken terry sat in on the press confrence.

Breken what did joining learn?

Dr. karen landers with the alabama department of public health spoke to florence and lauderdale county officials and took questions too.

The big topic was vaccines.

Landers said the state is still in phase 1 a and will be for the next few weeks because there are just not enough vaccines.

She also said she belives the state is making the right call in vaccinating first responders and healthcare workers before people who have underlying conditions or older and not in a nursing home.

<what i can say to that is that we are following our plan and building on that and providing more vaccines everyday.

> landers said hospitals across the state are strained and statewide recenlty only about 10% of hospital beds are open.

Landers said this isn't the christmas or new years spike and said individual decisions will determine if the state goes in a worse direction.

She said do what's necessary but avoid gatherings even family ones.
