Washington County opens mass vaccination site at Word of Life Church

Despite the rain, many people from all over the state went out to receive their vaccination.

Right now-- there's no word on any injuries or structural damage caused by this storm.

Five mass vaccination sites opened today in georgia, and one of those sites is in washington county.

41nbc's lizbeth gutierrez was there, and has a look at how many people showed up on day one.

Standup: many people from all over the state of georgia have been arriving to this site here in sandersville to receive their dose of the pfizer vaccine.

David shanks (area 1 homeland security coordinator) : "we are having a lot of people that are coming by who have not registered and they have not heard about the registration they've said."

The site located at the word of life church in sandersville is only vaccinating those who have registered at my vaccine georgia dot com.

Area one homeland security coordinator, david shanks says the turn out has been pretty slow, but so far they've been able to vaccinate seventy-five of those one-hundred and fifty that have registered.

David shanks (area 1 homeland security coordinator) : "i'm going to say, i think the weather has a little bit to do with it, we have some potentially very severe weather coming and i'll be honest i'm hoping people will take that into consideration, but i also think i know that for several people getting the word out there."

Shanks says if they do see any sign of sever weather they will shutdown temporarily and postpone appointments for later times by sending out messages to those who have registered.

But as of now are working to provide the vaccine to as many people as possible.
