New information -- today mo brooks is set to hold a campaign rally where he says he will share a major announcement.

We now know that announcement is that he's runnng for senate it will be at the indoor shooting range at 6 this evening.

A silent protest is planned across the street during the announcement.

Several people have been calling for brooks to resign.

They say he played a role in the january 6 riot at the u-s capitol.

So far -- only 1 person has announced their candidacy for the u-s senate seat.

Lynda blanchard announced she will run in the senate race last month.

She's trump's former ambassador to slovenia.

Blanchard calls herself a defender of trump's legacy.

U-s representative mo brooks is expected to also join the race this afternoon.

Dr. waymon burke says brooks is rummored to have trump in his corner.

He adds that the former president will likely play a major role in alabama.

I think alabama is one of the states that was most overwhelming for trump in the 2020 election, so i think that's probably a reality.

Dr. burke adds that it's still unclear if any possible indictments following the capitol riot will impact public opinion.

Brooks is facing calls to resign for what he said at a pro-trump rally ahead of that riot.

Brooks said he's not steping down and that critics misinterpreted his remarks.
