A local group gathered at a Tupelo clinic to encourage others to get vaccinated.

Community leaders are encouraging people to get the coronavirus vaccine and hope to make getting the vaccine more accessible wtva's brianna bynum shares with us why they teamed up to help improve the vaccination numbers.

African american community leaders including pastors and law makers gathered here at hooks medical clinic to encourage residents to get the coronavirus vaccine.

(vo) the groups says its important to not only tell others to get it, but also show that theyre getting the shots- so clinic staff publicly vaccinated several people this afternoon.

Representative rickey thompson says a mobile vaccination vehicle is also in the works to cater to underserved populations.

A rural-area farmer says he believes thats a good idea.

"so they dont have the time to come and sit and wait in line for an hour, hour and a half to get the shot.

So this will be very accessible to them."

"its an exciting thing were doing today when were talking about access.

Thats a very important point when it comes to our community being underserved."
