NWMCC is teaching future technicians how to keep airplanes safe before they leave the ground.

Right now, northwest mississippi community college is teaching future technicians how to keep airplanes safe before they leave the ground.

Wtva's alexis jones introduces us to one student who's excited to see his work fly in this week's "skilled to work" std ."

Student - northwest mississippi community college) aviation maintenance program director) since northwest student greg orman was a young boy, he's helped his dad fix cars and trucks.

But as he got older, he wanted to work on something much larger... "it's awesome to see something you worked on i mean fly after you worked on it and fixed it."

Orman hopes to be an aviation mechanic for fedex one day.

He said thanks to northwest mississippi community college's aviation program, he's one step closer.

"they know what we need to know to succeed."

Director calvin cooper said there are only two schools in mississippi with an aviation maintenance program.

Cooper said here students will learn everything from repairs to the structure of aircraft.

"the benefits behind our college and other schools like us is that we teach that wide range.

We give them that basic skill set they need to go all over the nation."

Students must complete the two year program before getting their mechanic certification.

They also need to be at least 18 years old to start.

As for orman, he said he's grateful to gain the skills he needs to soar in his future career.

"i'm very blessed."
