Mask Mandate officially downgraded to Mask Advisory in Indiana; Wabash Valley Counties adjust

News 10 nightwatch.

As we've told you... today is the first day the mask mandate in the state of indiana is officially downgraded to a mask advisory.

News 10's dominic miranda checked in with multiple county health department's across the wabash valley today.

He joins us now live in our newsroom with more information on how one county is moving forward.

The mask mandate began in indiana in july 20-20.

Nearly a year later...it's finally been downgraded to a mask advisory..

I spoke with the greene county health department this afternoon on how they aim to move forward .

[take pkg incue: both vigo county outcue: **bite** continue to do that duration:1:21] pk} both vigo county and parke county in the wabash valley have announced that they will follow governor holcomb's advice... and move to a mask advisory.

Shari lewis with the greene county health department says... as long as greene county remains in the blue color code category.... and continues to have low to moderate spread... they will also follow the governor's advice.

But lewis says it goes further than that.

"with a mask mandate going to an advisory... we may see less people out and about masking.

So we definitely want to have more people vaccinated."

As a result of the state's mask downgrade..

The health department wants to make sure people who want the vaccine have access to the vaccine.

Greene county will be hosting a mass vaccination clinic this friday and saturday from 8 a-m to 8 p-m at the greene county fairgrounds.

Lewis says 8 percent of greene county's population is fully vaccinated right now... but they will have 15 hundred moderna vaccines ready to go this weekend to boost those numbers up.

"we definitely want to increase those numbers, and the fastest way to increase that is to ensure that our residents have access to the vaccine.

Our best efforts is to have testing and vaccine available for those who want it and we will continue to do that."

Lewis says the greene county health department county health department prefer's that you register at our-shot-dot-i-n-dot-gov for this weekends mass vaccination clinic... however..

Registration is not required.
