With wildfire season approaching, the chico city council tonight is taking steps to protect the community from potential catastrophe.

Action news now reporter carmela karcher was at the city council meeting tonight and shows us what they decided.

City council was planning on discussing connecting sewage lines to the chico rescue mission to increase the number of beds for the unhoused but it was pulled so the council can have more time to discuss.

Mark orme said it will be included in a council meeting at a later time.

The entire state of california will fully re-open on june 15th.

The state says by then -- enough people should be vaccinated -- to let life get close to a pre-pandemic normal.

But the mask mandate will remain in effect.

For that to go away -- health and human services say it needs to make sure the vaccine supply stays up -- and hospitalization rates stay low.

Governor newsom says -- things are looking up -- with more doses of the vaccine headed to california.

With the expectation of an abundance of doses coming in from the federal government by the end of this month and may, we can confidently say that by june 15th we can start to open up as business as usual, subject to ongoing mask usage
