Doing enough (sot (music) "from this is kq2 news at ten.") it was a loud message from voters tonight good evening and thanks for joining us.

I'm alan van zandt.

Voters overwhelmingly struck down a st.

Joseph school district 107 million dollar bond proposal and they also removed three members of the current board of education..

A lot to go over with that... let's start with the ballot initiative, failing by an almost 2 to 1 margin.

Kq2's kilee thomas who was with district administrators and board members as results started coming in.

She joins us now here in the studio.the votes are in... st.

Joseph will not be getting a new high school-a disappointing loss for district officials... we were there tonight as they watched the numbers go in the opposite direction of what they wanted.

St joseph voters giving the bond initiative a big no.

The issue failing by a whopping 65% to 35 percent margin a heartbreaking outcome for district officials hoping to build a new high school and right-size the district down from three high schools to two.

District officials say regardless of the no vote... the district can't stay the same way it is now.

(sot )"the voters have spoken and we the board respect that.

What is clear is that status quo is not sustainable.

While we are disappointed this bond initiative was not successful, it is the beginning of a discussion with the community that our facilities are not up to 21st century educational standards."

"of course it's disappointing.

I'm very proud of the work that our administrative team and board put in to try and put a plan together, but obviously that's why you have elections.

People have the opportunity to voice their opinions."

In the past- board officials said the district will move towards a two high school system regardless if the bond issue passes...but tonight- the board president says that's something the board will have to discuss in the coming days.

Only 28% of voters voicing their say on the school bond issue.out of the some 50,000 registered voters...only 13,000 showing up at the polls today- reporting in studio, kilee thomas kq2 news
