Several parents went in-person and over the phone to advocate for students to fully return to the classroom.

CDC guidelines allow for 3-feet distance, but the board made no changes to the school year.

- the chico unified school board decided to stay with the current am-pm model for the rest of the school year for all schools action news now reporter esteban reynoso was at the meeting -- esteban you spoke with parents -- how do they feel about this?

Parents are upset that change wasn't made here today, they feel the school board did not take into consideration what the students are feeling -- and we asked the school board why no change was made.

We'll move onto the next agenda item -- "unbelievable, ridiculous, you people suck, we're in the orange tier we need to be in full time, you set the models."

Why not make a decision tonight?

"it goes back to the february decision that we made to keep am pm with few modifications through the end of the school year."

And no two board members motioned to alter the february decision "i encourage every parent to continue to speak up no matter what their point of view is."

But some parents that did speak up -- feel they weren't heard at the meeting wednesday night "they basically didn't entertain a vote, if they thought there was something valid to be discussed, they would've actually made a vote on it."

"plenty out there across the county, state ,scountry and the world are back.

All the recommendation s we want them to follow saying it's totally fine to come back to school now -- what i'm feeling right now is frustration."

Right now students are in the am-pm model with masks on for two hours a day in class students are spaced six feet apart -- but bringing them back fully in- person would mean cutting that in half -- and some parents wanted that change and some parents are happy they'll stay in the am-pm model for the rest of the semester.

"it's april, why in the middle of the semester you send kids back, you can't wait until the fall.

Oh we're going to have a school board meeting to decide whether or not.

Aren't there only seven weeks left?

It doesn't make any sense" some students came and spoke at the meeting people suck, we're in the orange tier we need to be in full time, you set the models."
