The living conditions and suffering of more than 22,000 chickens in an intensive breeding in Pihem in the Pas-de-Calais, exposed

This controversial chicken farm where cost-cutting in a bid to make money leaves birds often so sick that they cannot even make it to food and water is planning to more than triple its size. The images of the birds were revealed by French animal rights organisation L214, who say that the farm, which is located in Pihem, a commune in the Pas-de-Calais department in north-western France, just across from Dover in England, has plans to expand from 150,000 to 800,000 chickens a year.According to the animal rights organisation, there are 22,000 chickens on the farm at any given time, which translates to 21 chickens per square metre.
