Quds Day: Twitter Sees Storm #FromKashmirToPalestine

(MENAFN - Kashmir Observer) Srinagar: Keeping up the tradition of expressing solidarity with the oppressed people across the globe, tens and thousands of people on Friday took social media platform Twitter by storm by demonstrating solidarity with the people of Kashmir and Palestine. The last Friday of the holy month of Ramazan or JumatVida is observed as Al Quds Day every year across the world to express solidarity with the oppressed people, especially the people of occupied Palestine. However, this year due to the coronavirus pandemic, the people found a noble way to express solidarity with their oppressed brethren �Twitter. Newly constituted Majlis-e-Ulama initiated the social media campaign in Kashmir Valley in view of the pandemic. 'International Quds Day is an annual event held on the last Friday of Ramadan that was initiated by the Islamic Republic of Iran in 1979 to express support for the Palestinians and oppose Zionism and Israel,' Tweeted Maulana Masroor Abbas Ansari, a senior member of the Majlis and leader of Ittehadul Muslimeen. Majlis' call for solidarity with the hashtag #FromKashmirToPalestine evoked overwhelming response on Twitter. The potential reach of the Twitter storm was 330000 and it had over 400 contributors by the time it ended around 5:00pm. 'We wanted to convey a message to all the oppressed people, including that from occupied Palestine that we stand in solidarity with their struggle. 'Social media is a very good platform to make your voice heard. This was the need of the hour. Today, we made it clear that come what may, we will always stand behind our oppressed brother in Palestine and we stand for Al-Quds,' he said. Another member of the Majlis Ulama Aga Syed Hadi Mousvi had also supported the twitter storm. 'In view of the ongoing Covid-19 lockdown, a public procession for Quds day (Jumma-tul-vida) would not be possible. However, observing this day is still possible through social media and we can still raise voice against the oppression this day,' he Tweeted. 'Following the orders of our leader, let's observe 7May, 2021, the last Friday of this holy month of Ramadan through social media. Let us start a wave of protest in favour of the oppressed using #FromKashmirToPalestine,' the Tweet added. Besides the influential Shia leaders, hundreds of netizens also shared pictures and videos of Kashmir and Palestine to draw parallels of the sufferings between the people of the two nations. Some netizens had also posted heart wrenching pictures showing either Palestinian kids crying over the dead corpses of their parents or the parents breaking down in tears over their beloved ones.
