Watch: CRPF inducts DRDO-developed bike ambulance, Rakshita, for remote areas

Twenty-one 'bike ambulances' developed by the DRDO were inducted into the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) on January 18 for casualty evacuation tasks in remote areas and insurgency-affected areas. The customised 'Rakshita' ambulances have been created on 350cc Royal Enfield Classic bikes by the Institute of Nuclear Medicine and Allied Sciences (INMAS), a scientific research body under the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). CRPF chief A P Maheshwari said the bikes will be used insurgency-hit areas for evacuating sick or injured troops of the paramilitary force. The bike's pillion has been customised as a casualty evacuation seat with recline and has a hand immobiliser and harness jacket. The vital parameters of the patient can be monitored on the dashboard mounted LCD. It is also equipped with air splint, medical and oxygen kit for on spot medical care. Violence erupted in Kolkata during an election rally on January 18. A BJP worker was allegedly injured when stones were pelted at the rally. The stone pelters allegedly carried TMC party flags. In response, BJP workers also allegedly indulged in violence. Two-wheelers at the roadside were allegedly vandalized and stones were also pelted at buildings and shops in the area. The BJP roadshow was led by Dilip Ghosh and Suvendu Adhikari. “BJP is absolutely ready to give a befitting reply to TMC in West Bengal. We are ready to defeat Mamata Banerjee no matter where she contests elections from. Senior BJP leaders made her enter Nandigram but today we have an opportunity to oust her,” said Ghosh. Farmer protest: Political party meeting plan leads to differences among leaders

A face-off is brewing between leaders of the Sanyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) and chief of Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) chief Gurnam Singh Chaduni. The latter's alleged bids to organise a meeting with political parties was labelled as 'unauthorised' by the SKM which claims that it wants to keep the ongoing farmer protests apolitical. Chaduni called the allegations a plot by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) to break the protest. ‘Aim to reduce road accidents & deaths by 50% before 2025’: Nitin Gadkari

Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari said that his government is working to reduce road accidents and deaths by 50% by 2025. The minister inaugurated Road Safety Month and said that his government will work with different stakeholders to achieve this target. ‘If we wait till 2030, 6-7 lakhs more people will die. So, we've made a commitment that before 2025, road accidents and deaths due to it will be brought down by 50% with help of people's participation,’ Gadkari said at the event. He added that the government will spend 14000 crore to identify black spots across the country. ‘This time, till now, we have broken the record of road construction. दक्षिण कोरिया की एक अदालत ने सैमसंग इलेक्ट्रॉनिक्स (Samsung Electronics) के वाइस चेयरमैन जे वाई ली को ढाई साल जेल की सजा सुनाई है। 52 साल के ली को 2017 में पूर्व राष्ट्रपति पार्क गियून-हाय के एक सहयोगी को रिश्वत देने का दोषी पाया गया था, जिसके बाद उन्हें 5 साल की सजा सुनाई गई। हालांकि, उन्होंने आरोपों से इनकार किया था। अपील करने पर एक साल बाद उन्हें रिहा कर दिया गया लकिन बाद में सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने मामले को वापस सोल हाई कोर्ट में भेजा दिया जिसने सोमवार को अपना फैसला दिया।

Delhi schools reopen for Class 10, 12 students; Sisodia inspects Covid protocols

Public & Private schools for Class 10 and 12 reopened in the national capital after 10 months. Educational institutions were shut due to the coronavirus pandemic. After a long break, students reached their respective schools for practical lessons, counseling and doubt-clearing sessions. The move comes ahead of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) board examination scheduled to begin in May. Schools were seen following Covid-19 protocols and social distancing norms. Deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia, visited Kautilya Government Sarvodaya Bal Vidyalaya in Chirag Enclave to inspect how the school had prepared for the return of students and whether mandatory Covid-19 guidelines were being followed. “The Covid-19 pandemic had been a tough time for students and people around the world. Bollywood actor Pankaj Tripathi speaks to HT City Entertainment Editor, Monika Rawal, about being the 'man of the moment' whether it's on web platforms or in theatres. With multiple projects that released last year — Angrezi Medium, Extraction, Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl, Ludo, Shakeela, Mirzapur 2 and Criminal Justice season 2 — the actor had a packed 2020. Even this year, he already has had a web film, Kaagaz, which opened to positive response. "Though I haven't done any project for nine months but since I had so many releases, so somewhere or the other, I am only talking about the films and my acting," he says. However, he readily adds that he would like to slow down in the next year and going forward, will try to take up lesser work that what he has been taking of late, and spend some time with his family and take a break. "There is a lot of demand and lot of filmmakers want to cast me but I have not learnt to say no yet. It's very tough. But agar samay hi nahi hai toh naa karna hi padega," he says. Tripathi admits there's a fear of getting typecast into doing mostly web only projects. "I've heard people say, 'Pankaj Tripathi toh OTT ka superstar hai'. But I only believe in acting, not the platform," he shares. The actor further also talks about saturation point in an actor's life, possibility of getting stereotyped in doing similar roles, the OTT boom, charm of theatres and a lot more, doing more of message-oriented projects and a lot more.

R-Day terror threat: Posters in Delhi after govt's Khalistan warning on farm stir

Delhi police put up 'wanted terrorist' posters ahead of Republic Day in Connaught Place. Alleged operatives of Khalistani groups and Al Qaeda were named in posters. Just days earlier, the government had raised Khalistani threat in the Supreme Court. “We have inputs that some terrorist organisations including Khalistani outfits and Al-Qaeda may carry out unwanted activities on January 26. Keeping this in mind, we have taken a few steps including putting up posters of wanted terrorists,” said Siddharth Jain, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) for Connaught Place. The government told the Supreme Court that a banned Khalistani group was backing the protesting farmers. Attorney General Kk Venugopal said that Khalistanis had infiltrated the protest. Many farmers are camping at Delhi's borders seeking repeal of the three farm laws. Protesting farmers are planning a 'disciplined' tractor rally in Delhi on January 26. 'Tarikh pe tarikh': Farmer leader says govt dragging things to tire protestors

All India Kisan Sabha, General Secretary, Hannan Mollah said the government is dragging things so that the protesting farmers get tired and leave. His comments came after the ninth round of discussion between the Centre and farmers remained inconclusive. The next round of talks will be held on January 19. “For almost two months, we are suffering and dying in cold weather. The government is giving us 'tarikh pe tarikh' and are dragging things so that we get tired and leave the place. This is their conspiracy," said Mollah. The 9th round of talks came after the Supreme Court stayed the implementation of the farm laws. The Supreme Court formed four-member committee to mediate between farmers and the centre. The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) finished the construction of a 110-feet bailey bridge at Kela Morh near Ramban on the Jammu-Srinagar highway in a record time of 60 hours on Jan 16. The bailey bridge, which would be opened for regular traffic on Saturday evening, was required as retaining wall of the existing bridge collapsed on January 11 cutting the valley from the rest of the country. Bailey bridge is made from portable and prefabricated steel panels that can be quickly assembled. Brigadier IK Jaggi, Chief Engineer project Beacon of BRO, who monitored the construction of the bridge said that BRO put men and machinery working day and night despite cold winter. “We have accomplished the completion of the vital bridge in just 60 hours. Delhi police review security for Republic Day amid farmers’ parade call

Ahead of Republic Day, Delhi Police Commissioner S N Shrivastava on Saturday held a review meeting in which he also took stock of the arrangements at farmers' agitation sites to maintain law and order, officials said. In the meeting held with senior officers, the police chief took stock of anti-terrorism measures as well as action taken against criminals involved in various cases, including burglary, violation of the Excise Act and the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, and gambling cases, they said. At least 1,65,714 healthcare beneficiaries received COVID-19 jab on Saturday across India, marking it as a historic and biggest COVID-19 vaccination drive launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. About 16,755 total vaccinators involved across India during the COVID vaccination drive. There was no post adverse event reported after the vaccination was administered to the people. "Total vaccinators involved across India were 16,755. Total beneficiaries vaccinated across India--1,65,714. COVID19 vaccination drive was successful on Day 1. No case of post-vaccination hospitalisation reported so far," said Manohar Agnani, Additional Secretary of Union Health Ministry. "The Serum Institute of India (SII) produced COVISHIELD was supplied to all States and Union Territories (UT). Bharat Biotech's COVAXIN was supplied to 12 States. Total 3,351 sessions were held across the country with both the vaccines, said Health Ministry on COVID19 vaccine roll-out," he added. Watch the full video for more details.
