(MENAFN) On Tuesday, May. 18 UN Undersecretary-General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs Rosemary DiCarlo stated that the world community is ought to do "all it can" to stop the aggression in Gaza and Israel which has killed and wounded hundreds. The UN political affairs chief was speaking to an assembly of the UN Forum on the Question of Palestine, and said that the UN has been "actively involved" in conciliation thus far, and noted the clash engaging Hamas outfit and Israeli forces, which has killed over 200 citizens on both sides, comprising children, was a "tragic reminder" of the necessity to reach a solution to stop fighting between Palestinians and Israelis, "once and for all." DiCarlo asked all those engaged in the clash to facilitate the "intensification of mediation efforts," which can also contribute stopping a rising humanitarian catastrophe in the Gaza Strip. She noted: "in the absence of such a process, we are - regrettably - bound to witness more episodes of tensions and desperation. People on both sides deserve much more than that."
