In their facilities.

The state is working to keep first responders safe from the coronavirus by giving them the address of positive patients.

Waay 31's rodneya ross is live outside the madison county 9-1-1 call center with exactly who has access to the addresses and how it helps protect first responders.

When you call 9-1-1, call centers like the one here in madison county are able to see if anyone at your address has coronavirus -- they'll then notify paramedics so they can protect themselves before arriving at your home.

The alabama department of public health tells us the addresses are stored in a secure database and given to the state 911 board.

The 9-1-1 board they told us the list is updated daily and sent to local 911 centers.

The public does not have access to the list.

It's only given to medical services, fire departments, and law enforcement.

We know the ambulance service in huntsville has access to the list.

But a spokesperson with huntsville police said they don't use the list or have access to it.

Instead, they ask questions about symptoms before they respond.

Later today -- a representative with the alabama department of public health will be at the daily news conference with local officials.

We expect to learn more information about this tool to help protect first responders..
