Of southern indiana is shedding some light on fall semester plans.

44news reporter megan diventi joins us live from u-s-i's campus with the details university leaders revealed today.

U-s-i officials announcing earlier today the university is expected to reopen to the public on july 6th.

Faculty and students can also expect a mix of online and in-person classes this upcoming semester.

Those varying classes will be part of a flexible course delivery model-- course offerings will be available later this summer.

21 percent of classes will be online only.

As far as student housing goes----- the university will be open at at a maximum of 85 percent, with some apartment buildings being left intentionally vacant for possible quarantining.

University officials say employees 65 and older--or have certain underlying conditions---or living with people who may be at risk---can request alternative work arrangements or consideration.

U-s-i president ronald rochon says the extra precautions are about helping each other--and the university will do their very best to ensure the safety of all.

"we understand that this is a string possibility across the nation.

One thing we decided to do was to move forward and do our best in mitigating as much risk as possible.

I can assure you this campus will be responsive to any kind of outbreak.

This is why we have plans and we decided to have vacant buildings for our students so that we can quarantine, isolate, individuals."

Trustees approved an interim university operating budget for the upcoming fall semester-- ensuring all faculty and staff will be paid in full through the end of the year.

For spring commencement-- it has been rescheduled to take place august 14th through 16th at the screaming eagles arena.

The ceremonies are scheduled over a span of 3 days---to allow for proper cleaning and social distancing.
