Cause of an overnight fire in the city of utica.

Utica fire chief scott ingersoll says when his firefighters arrived.... they saw fire coming from the second and third floor porch.

But that's not all they found.... ingersoll tells news channel 2 that a man who was inside the home at the time.... was throwing several items at the firefighters.

The fire happening just before 11:30 last night on saratoga street in utica.

Ingersoll says there is damage to all floors of this two and a half story building.

The fire, he tells us, was inside the building and made its way into the attic space.

That's where his crews encountered the man... "when they started making their way up into the attic, they did encounter a male that was throwing things at them that they did have to remove from the structure.

That male was not injured."

Our camera crews saw utica police place a man in handcuffs at the scene.

We are working with police to get you more information on whether this was the man involved.

One resident is reported to only have minor injuries.

The red cross is assisting five children and one adult displaced by the fire.

We're staying on the story... of a fatal thruway
