City recreation leaders they are asking and taking necessary steps to make sure camp goers in the city of charleston are protected as well and folk the new guidelines.

Fox 24 brooke schwieters on daniel island for us right now.

Brooke, you spoke with leaders how they are planning to navigate the new rule that applies to both adults and kids.

As you know the summer camps and sports day camps city of charleston are still ongoing even amid this pandemic.

We have already seen a few of them shut down due to positive covid-19 tests in staff members.

All the staff members since the camp started have had to wear masks.

So too will the kids, at least when they get here they will be wearing them when it is appropriate.

City says it hopes to continue pushing to slow the spread of covid-19.

Now some of these protocols put in place by these leaders have been sent out to parents about this new requirement.

The recreation leaders tell me once they are outside, the kids are outside and properly social distancing they will be able to take off their masks.

In addition temperatures are taken from the car before kids are expected to come in and kids are expected to bring their own waters.

Now, with these heat indexes over 100 this week there will be extra monitoring by staff.

Recreation leaders emphasize they feel good about the protocols they have in place while still providing opportunities for kids to get outside and socialize.

>> but i know at some point the kids need to be back in some norm.

>> , they need to be around friends and outside and playing some and that's what we do so we are with definitely trying to keep eyes and ears on everyday what changes and what's comes and what we can do.

>> brooke: now, according to ordinance kids over the age of ten do fall under this face covering ruling ordinance and while ages two to ten they will be encouraged by parents to really get those facemasks worn in those public spacing.
