Shasta County public health and the Redding Chamber of Commerce have teamed up to launch a program to help customers shop more safely.

Now reporter karen alvarez breaks down the program.

It aims to help people make educated decisions on how to safely visit businesses.

Take mini package: it's called the road to recovery star program.

And it encourages business of*al* types to follow state guidelines for reopening.

Sot(benjamin nowain, participating in road to recovery star program): i decided to participate because i wanted to let people know that we were attempting to add controls into our business and to make it something that community members could come and participate in our business and games and stuff and be safe.

How does it work--- all you have to do is go to shastaready.org click on roadmap to recovery' a link will take you to a new site that asks you to certify your business and have a plan to operate safely.

Once you've completed all steps, you then print and display your sign at your business.

Sot(benjamin nowain, participating in road to recovery star program): we're basically saying that we are doing the best we can and the star is basically to let customers know that we did take those steps and in terms of getting it was relatively simple.

Businesses that take part in the star program pledge to also display their safety plans and checklist so that customers know what to expect when going to that specific business.

Sot(benjamin nowain, participating in recovery star program): we just want to let people know that we're making an effort.

We didn't just close down and then reopen up trying to do business as usual&that was not the case, we did not want to do that.

A digital star is available for businesses to display on their websites and social media.

Reporter looklive: the program encourages people to "look for the star" on those businesses taking part in the program.
