We talk with Tech Expert Burton Kelso about some of the ways we can keep our kids safe while surfing the web.

C1 welcome burton.

Tell us about these kids this summer.

I know we've talked in the past about how the try to keep them safe from the dark web but what can you tell us about how smart kids are getting.

>> kids are so tech savvy that they've got friends and they can figure out a way to get around internal controls.

Kids are going to find a way to get a hold of their devices and get around your parental controls.

>> there's a lot of kids.

There's a lot of websites.

There's a lot of things going on.

For parents what can you tell us for good tips to help.

>> well parents need to understand that kids can utilize virtual private networks.

They circumstance come vet your home network and allow them to get a devise that you have bought.

Nor things kids can do is get on the neighbor's wi-fi.

Obviously -- it's a different network.

It allows them to get to sites you have blocked.

They can get on social media.

They have full access to the world wide web.

>> where do we even begin in how do we do smarter?

>> the easiest things parents can do is make sure you look at your devices a couple times a week to see where they're going.

Because there's no all inclusive devise that's going to block every site.

So make sure that you can look at their devise.

Also make sure that you have all the passwords to their online accounts so you can see that they're not doing things or saying things that could ebb danger them or your family -- endanger them or your family.

>> this is a hard conversations because you want to trust them and tell them you trust them and show them trust that you do.

So how do you go about having these conversations with yours?

>> well, i think starting off by letting the kid know that you set the rules as far as your devise is concerned.

Set that expectation they need to understand how to use their devise and the fact that if they don't use it properly you are going to take it away.

>> and last but not least i have to ask you what you're preferred time limit is for the kids on the screen time.

>> 2 hours a day should be the max amount of time that you allow kids to play on their devices.

I don't matter what day of the week >> all right burton thank you so much.

Man covid has been hard for real.

>> it has been.

>> we'll talk to you again soon.

Thanks?

>> no problem jodi.
