To the general public is limited.

Some gun owners in coos county say they're under fire from liberal lawmakers in salem.

And they're asking voters to approve a measure on the november ballot, that would create a sanctuary zone for the second amendment.

Kezi 9 news reporter evita garza explains what a vote yes would mean& for measure 6-181.

Trt: 1:59 00:00 rob taylor, committee chair, preserve the second amendment:?we think people should be allowed to go to court to defend themselves before they have their guns taken away?

00:05 take lower rob taylor is a gun activist, who helped draft measure 6-181.

If it passes, coos county officials wouldn't able to enforce state and federal gun control regulations.

Things like repealing conceal carry laws.

Taylor says the proposal is designed to counter oregon?red flag law?

Which allows the courts to take guns away from people who may want to hurt themselves or others.

Rob taylor:?people may be afraid of someone who lives with them.

But that doesn justify the fact that people have the right to have their day in court?

The proposed law wouldn apply to city police departments.

Just the sheriff's office and county prosecutors.

And it wouldn't apply to background checks done through private gun dealers.

I tried to ask sheriff craig zanni what he thought about the proposal, but he didn't get back to me.

00:52 evita:?even though measure 6-181 made it on the ballot this year, there is still a lot of mixed opinions about it among the residents here in coos county.

Many tell me this may be the best way to protect the 2nd amendment, while others say it goes too far?

Tristan avelis says he plans to vote "no" -- because he thinks the measure is extremely irresponsible& and he concerned it could make the sheriff job a lot harder.

1:17 tristan avelis, coos county resident:?what these people are saying is that they want to prohibit the enforcement when they want to break rules at a state, federal or municipal level?

But, joshua walters who owns orcogunworks in coos bay says everyone has the right to own a gun& and a "yes" vote is the first step in securing that right.

1:38 joshua walters, gun shop owner:?if someone was killed with a gun, it the gun fault.

Guns are bad.

Let get rid of guns.

No, it doesn work that way.

If i wanted to hurt a bunch of people, i would steal a garbage truck and run it through a school?

Come november third... this controversial issue over whether people can have guns in their hands... will soon be in the hands of the voters... in coos county,
