Our look at state- wide ballot measures.

Tonight, we break down prop 24.

This proposition was written to close some loopholes in a 2018 consumer data privacy law.

It would allow you to limit data used by businesses, such as exact location, race or religion.

It would limit how long businesses can hold onto your data.

It would subject businesses to 75- hundred dollar fines for violating children's privacy rights.

And it would create a new state agency to oversee all this.

But it is a complex law, 52 pages long, that's finding both support and opposition from consumer rights groups.

Proponents say prop 24 would give the existing privacy law the enforcement strength it lacks.

And they say it will make it harder for lobbyists to change privacy laws.

Opponents of prop 24 say the new data privacy law just went into effect this year and we should give it more time.

So, a yes on 24 means you want to overhaul the new law.

A no means, don't change anything.
