With a population of around 13.2 million in the city and 23 million in the larger metropolitan area of Greater Tehran, Tehran is the most populous city in Iran and in West Asia [6] and has the largest metropolitan area in the Middle East. It is ranked 9th in the world in terms of metropolitan population.
