Boston Mayor Marty Walsh on Tuesday approved a ban on government use of facial surveillance technology. The ordinance takes effect immediately and makes Boston the first major East Coast city to prohibit the use of the technology. The 13-member Boston City Council unanimously passed the ban last week. Walsh signed the ban at Boston City Hall as city councilors and supporters of the ban looked on via video.
