A quiet weekend at the box office with ‘The Beekeeper' on top and some Oscar boosts

Holdovers and Oscar hopefuls dominated the North American box office charts this weekend in the absence of any new wide releases. Studio estimates Sunday show that Amazon MGM Studios’ “The Beekeeper” earned over $7 million to take the No. 1 spot. Paramount’s “Mean Girls” musical was close behind in what is also its third weekend. Warner Bros.' “Wonka” added nearly $6 million to take third place in its seventh weekend. The Timothée Chalamet-led musical is inching closer to a $200 million domestic take. Rounding out the top five were Universal and Illumination’s “Migration" and Sony’s romantic comedy “Anyone But You."
