Safari's color tab bar restricted to 'Compact' view in macOS Monterey, iPadOS 15.1

Apple's macOS Monterey and iPadOS 15 release candidates another Safari design change that shifts the web browser further away from what was presented at the company's Worldwide Developers Conference in June.

After considerable pushback from developers and the public, Apple has restricted Safari's color-matching tab bar to a "Compact" option that was recently eschewed as the web browser's default view in favor of a more traditional tab layout.Introduced at WWDC, the color tab bar option dynamically modifies its base color to match the hues of an active website, creating the illusion that a webpage extends to the edge of an open Safari window. A number of users complained that the color changing option made user interface elements confusing, adding a bit of flash but little value to the browsing experience.
