In Mexico, activists from Catholics for the Right to Decide are helping women reconcile their faith and abortion rights. For these Catholic women, faith does not conflict with their fight for abortion access. It’s an unusual position in Mexico, where religious groups frequently protest the decriminalization of abortion. The organization was founded in 1994 by theologians and activists who followed the steps of Catholics for Choice in the United States. Now present in 10 Latin American countries, its members advocate for the reinterpretation of sacred texts with a feminist perspective.
