Mumbai: Foundation helps first-time offenders with cash for bail and rehabilitation

Last year 20-year old Nihal Aslam Shaikh, an Andheri resident, received a bike from a friend. He rode the bike for a few days before the cops came knocking at his door. He was accused of being part of the gang which had stolen the vehicle. Shaikh was arrested and sent to Taloja Jail. His mother Qamar Jahan, a widow, had lost her job as a maid due to the lockdown and had no money to hire a lawyer and get him, her only child, released on bail. Then city-based NGO Global Care Foundation intervened and got him released on cash bail for Rs 15,000.
