(MENAFN - The Peninsula) Doha: Green recovery should be resilient and create jobs for youth and women, United Nations Deputy Secretary-General and Chair of the United Nations Sustainable Development Group, Amina J. Mohammed, said yesterday at the Qatar Economic Forum. A green recovery is a new window on policies and solutions that will benefit people and the planet for years. An essential part of it is safeguarding the environment by protecting ecosystems, fighting the climate crisis, investing in clean-energy jobs, civil rights, and prioritising climate justice. Speaking via video-conference about green recovery, Mohammed said, ''In practical terms, let’s make sure we are moving towards a 1.5 degrees world which is important. And let’s see the financing flows come to us where there is 50/50 spend on adaptation and mitigations. ''We have to invest in renewable and ensure it happens at the local level and ensure it is creating jobs. We also need to transform the world the way we consume and produce food. The food ecosystem itself needs to change. Green transition needs to be resilient and be inclusive especially young people and women who are at the centre of that transition.” Mohammed said the Sustainable Development Goals had been knocked off track more by the COVID-19 pandemic, and countries have to invest in unstable economies to ensure the SDGs get back on track.MENAFN23062021000063011010ID1102331264
