*2023 Impact Statement of the Honduras Surgical Eye Mission*

*WASHINGTON, DC / ACCESSWIRE / September 11, 2023 / *The Visionary Foundation and Dr. Alberto Martinez, MD, conducted a highly successful surgical mission in San Pedro Sula, Honduras, from August 10th to August 14th, 2023, at the FSMV Hospital Leonardo Martinez, with support from FSMV charity led by Dr. Marcos Fajardo.

During this mission, Dr. Martinez, with the assistance of Dr. Edgar Maldonado, streamlined the surgical process, resulting in a record-breaking mission. They completed 17 corneal transplants, 43 cataract extractions, and five complex triple procedures, setting a new benchmark for the Visionary Foundation.

Remarkable cases included a successful corneal transplant for an 8-year-old boy and a challenging cataract surgery for a 14-year-old boy, both showing excellent outcomes.

Looking ahead to future missions, the foundation aims to improve instrument quality, streamline customs paperwork, secure funding for a new microscope, and collaborate with corneal banks to meet the growing demand for corneas.

The mission's success was made possible thanks to the generous support of Cornea Gen Tissue Bank, AltruVision A Lions Eye Bank, Alcon Laboratories, dedicated individuals like Nancy Cruz, Kevin Smith, Loretta Spence, and the kind contributions of Anna Pigotti and Matthew Martinez.

Additionally, the foundation extended its philanthropic efforts, donating $5,000 and school supplies to "Hogar San Jose," an orphanage directed by Sister Cilia.
