After hospital administrators became aware of a cyberattack late Thursday, Ireland's public health care system, known as the Health Service Executive or HSE, shut down all its computer systems nationwide. The attack is classified as a ransomware hack, but it is unclear whether the hackers were successful in obtaining enough data to lock up. Ransomware hackers steal data that has not been backed up and refuse to return it until a ransom is paid.
