President Trump Tweets 'Dreamers' Are Safe For Six Months
President Trump’s controversial decision to end the DACA program was criticized by both Republicans and Democrats in Washington.
Trump tweeted Thursday a reassuring message, saying the recipients of the program are safe for 6 months. “For all of those DACA that are concerned about your status during the 6 month period, you have nothing to worry about - No Action!” Trump’s Attorney General Jeff Sessions made the announcement Tuesday. “The program known as DACA has been rescinded.” The President’s decision would phase out the program over that six month period.
DACA temporarily blocked the deportation of young immigrants who were brought to the U.S. illegally by their parents.
By phasing the Obama-era program out, the Trump White House gave Congress six months to act.
Trump tweeted Wednesday that if Congress can’t get anything done, he’ll revisit the issue.
DACA is set to expire next March and recipients of the program whose status ends before that deadline can renew for two more years if they apply before October 5th.
