The protest in Eugene on Thursday evening was one of hundreds that happened across the country in response to President Trump's appointment of Matt Whitaker.

Including 33 planned here in oregon..

In response to president trump's appointment..

Of an acting attorney general.

I'm amber wilmarth in for chynna greene... kezi 9 news reporter tyler jones is at the federal courthouse in downtown eugene..

Where protestors filled the sidewalks for nearly two hours.

Tyler jones says, "amber, hundreds of protestors filled these steps and the front sidewalks of the federal courthouse here in downtown eugene because of president trump asking jeff sessions to resign, and appointing matt whitaker as the acting attorney general."

Nats for 3 secs "nobody's above the law" anywhere from three to five hundred people took to the federal courthouse..

To make their voices heard.

"we are experiencing obstruction of justice in plain sight, and it's only going to get worse until the american people stand up and demand accountability."

These protestors say president trump is abusing his powers as president..

By appointing matt whitaker as attorney general.

A man..

They say..

Has openly discussed strategies..

To stop robert muller's russia investigation.

"the only reason they're appointing him is so he can defend the president on that one particular issue.

That's not what you do with appointees.

You have them because they can do the job."

At the protest..

There were plenty of nats and nats as speakers talked about the eight key points..

They wanted to make.

Specifically that president trump isn't above the law..

Like these protestors say he believes.

And that muller's investigation continues..

Without hindrance.

"i'm hoping that what will happen is that the muller investigation will be completed, and we'll finally get to find out what this is all about."
