Thursday Morning Sprint

Morning sprint.

Haddie says it's a breezy, cooler day - and you'll want to keep the umbrella within reach.

Christina lorey's looking forward to summer sunshine as uw madison prepares to take the terrace chairs out of storage.

But we start at the nation's capital... where nearly two years after special counsel robert mueller began his investigation into russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election... we'll see a redacted version of that report today.

Attorney general william barr says he redacted grand jury material, information that could impact ongoing investigations, classified material, and evidence against people not criminally charged.

C-b-s is reporting president trump's personal attorneys have been working on a counter- report for months.

The report will be delivered to congress on c- ds... and then go onto the special counsel's website for the public to read.

Before that... attorney general william barr will hold a press conference.

You can watch that right here on news three now ... at 8-30 this morning.

We're still waiting for the school district of beloit to comment on allegations that a male student sexually assaulted three of his classmates on a field trip to florida.

A report was filed with the orange county sheriff's office... but the beloit daily news reports those officials sent the report to beloit police -- because they didn't believe these events happened in their jurisdiction.

Beloit police say they did not get that report, and are not involved in an investigation.

Wisconsin's congressional delegation is introducing legislation to designate sun prairie's post office as the "fire captain cory barr post office building."

Barr died while responding to the downtown explosion in july.

Representative mark pocan said because of barr and his fellow first responders... more than 100 people were led to safety that day.

Pocan hopes the gesture will make sure people remember barr's service and honor him for years to come.

Companion legislation has also been introduced in the senate.

Today: mostly cloudy, breezy and cooler with a slight chance of showers, mainly in the afternoon.

High: 50 wind: n/nw 10-20 mph tonight: mostly cloudy, breezy and cooler with any showers ending, then becoming partly cloudy.

Low: 37 wind: n 10-20 mph in new york... a man is in custody this morning after trying to get into saint patrick's cathedral with gallons of gasoline, lighter fluid and lighters.

The 37-year-old was detained by counter- terrorism officers.

He told officers he was cutting through the cathedral to get to madison avenue... and that his car had run out of gas.

Investigators found that wasn't the case... but they haven't determined a motive yet.

The man won't be identified until he's charged with a crime.

That incident comes as renovation work is underway at notre dame cathedral in paris.

The trump administration is getting lots of pushback online after the white house said the u-s would offer aid to the church.

Twitter users are pointing to the lack of government assistance for the three black churches burned down last week in louisiana ... for puerto rico residents, who are still recovering from hurricane maria... and for flint, michigan -- that's still in need of clean drinking water.

A group of lawmakers and advocates will be at the state capitol this morning... re- introducing legislation to fully legalize marijuana.

Governor tony evers' budget proposes legalizing medical marijuana... and de-criminalizing possession of small amounts of marijuana.

Republican assembly speaker robin vos has said that plan would make it easier to get recreational marijuana... and provides a pathway to full legalization -- which he doesn't support.

Meanwhile... governor evers says he's considering revising the state's contract with foxconn because the scope of the project no longer matches the original plan.

The current deal calls for wisconsin to provide the taiwanese tech company nearly 3 billion dollars in incentives over 15 years -- only if the company creates 13-billion jobs and 10-billion dollars in capital investments at its facility being built in racine county.

Now - governor tony evers says it's unrealistic to expect foxconn to employ that many people.

At the state capitol today... teachers will present a proposal to create a committee that will form a guidebook for parents, teacher s and administrators -- on how to detect and assist students with dyslexia.

Wisconsin is only one of three states in the nation that does not have any legislation regarding how schools best work with dyslexic students... which leaves parents to turn to outside resources.

The u.s. census bureau's latest report out today shows dane county is growing faster than any other county in the state.

In 2018, dane county added 5- thousand-584 people... that's more than double the second highest population gain of 2-thousand people in waukesha county.

Most of dane county's growth has been in suburban communities like sun prairie, middleton and verona... but the city of madison is also seeing growth -- especially on the isthmus.

We are on the brink of a new season: filled with green, orange and yellow.

It's terrace time!

There, each person will pick up a chair or two to take on the terrace.

The 1,000 chairs will be rushed out at 4 o clock.
