(WFFT) - More parking could be coming downtown with a parking garage expansion.

More parking could be coming downtown with a parking garage expansion.good evening, i'm hunter petroviak.there will be a public hearing on the proposal for the civic center garage monday night.as fox 55's cody butler explains, people feel the expansion is much needed.

There are currently nearly 18- thousand parking spots downtown ... only 75-hundred are available to the public.

And downtown redevelopment continues to draw people to the core of the city ... people like veronica wells says parking is getting hard to find.

That's why the city wants to add two stories to the civic center garage ... between washington and jefferson.it's one of many recommendations that's coming out of a downtown parking study that is being finished up.

But the downtown parking experience is different for everyone depending on their needs.

Kyle goehring usually parks along the street at meters ... which is more convenient and designed for short term parking.

Garages might be a few blocks away but are designed for those who are going to be staying downtown a little longer.wells says it would help if people know what 75- hundred spaces of available.
