Have mercy on us.

You take away the sins of the world, receive our prayer.

You are seated at the right hand of the father, have mercy on us.

For you alone are the holy one, you alone are the lord, you alone are the most high, jesus christ.

>>priest: let us pray.

Gladden us with holy joys, rejoice with devout thanksgiving.

For the ascension of christ, your son is our exaltation.

And when the head is gone before in glory, the body is called to follow in hope.

Through our lord jesus christ your son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the holy spirit.

One god forever, and ever.

>> amen a reading from the acts of the apostles.

In the first book theophilus, i dealt with all that jesus did and taught, until the day he was taken up after giving instructions through the holy spirit to the apostles whom he had chosen.

He presented himself alive to them by many proofs, after he had suffered.

Appearing to them during 40 days and speaking about the kingdom of god.

While meeting with them, he had joined them not to depart from jerusalem, but to wait for the promise of the father about which you have heard me speak.

For john baptized with water, but in a few days, you will be baptized with the holy spirit.

When they had gathered together, they asked him, lord, are you at this time going to restore the kingdom to israel?

He answered them, it is not for you to know the times are seasons, that the father has established by his own authority.

But, you will receive power, when the holy spirit comes upon you and you will be my witnesses in jerusalem.

Throughout and samaria, and to the ends of the earth.

As he said this as they were looking on, he was lifted up and a cloud took him from their sight.

While they were looking intently at the sky, as he was going, suddenly two men dressed in white garments, stood beside them.

They said, men of galilee, why are you standing there looking at the sky?

This jesus who has been taken up from you into heaven, will return in the same way as you have seen him going into heaven.

The word of the lord.

>>priest: thanks be too god.

>> god amounts his throne to shouts of joy.

A blast of trumpets for the lord.

>>priest: god amounts his throne to shouts of joy, a blast of trumpets to the lord.

>> all the people clap your hands, shout to the lord with gladness.

For the lord the most high, the awesome.

Is the great king over all of the earth.

>>priest: god amounts his throne to shouts of joy.

A blast of trumpets for the lord.

>> god amounts his throne, amid shouts of joy.

The lord amid trumpet blasts.

Sing praise to god, sing praise.

Sing praise to our king, sing praise.

>> god mounts his throne to shouts of joy.

A blast of trumpets for the lord.

>> four king of all the earth is god, sing hymns of praise.

God reigns over the nation's, god sits upon his holy throne.

>> god mounts his throne to shouts of joy.

A blast of trumpets for the lord.

>> a reading from the letter of st.

Paul to the ephesians.

Brothers and sisters, may the god of our lord jesus christ, the father of glory, give you a spirit of wisdom and revelation.

Resulting in knowledge of him.

Maybe eyes of your hearts be enlightened.

That you may know what is the hope that belongs to his call.

What are the riches of glory in his inheritance among the holy ones?

And what is the surpassing greatness of his power for us who believe in accordance with the exercise of his great might?

Which he worked in christ, raising him from the dead and seating him at his right hand in the heavens.

Far above every principality, authority, power and dominion and every name that is named, not only in this age, but also in the one to come.

And he put all things beneath his feet.

And gave him head over all things to the church, which is his body.

The fullness of the one who fills all things in every way.

The word of the lord.

>>priest: thanks be too god.

Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia.

>> go and teach all nations says the lord.

I am with you always.

Until the end of the world.

>>priest: hallelujah, alleluia.

>>priest: the lord be with you.

A reading to the holy gospel according to luke.

Jesus said to his disciples, thus it is written that the christ would suffer and rise from the dead on the third day and that repentance for the forgiveness of sins would be preached in his name to all the nation's beginning from jerusalem.

You are witnesses of these things.

And behold i am sending the promise of my father upon you, but stay in the city until you are called with power from on high.

Then he led them out as far as bethany, raised his hands and blessed them.

As he blessed them, he parted from them.

And was taken up to heaven.

They did him homage and returned to jerusalem with great joy.

And they were continually in the temple, praising god.

The gospel of the lord.

>> praise to you, or lord jesus christ.

>>priest: on this marvelous feast of the ascension of the lord, which was transferred from thursday, last week and still part of the structure, the calendar in many dioceses.

For us, it is transferred to sunday.

Enabling us to really honor and lift up in worship, this great feast, this pinnacle feast of the easter season.

And we know well that saint luke gives us two books in the new testament, the asked and the apostles, which we heard throughout this easter season as our first reading.

And the gospel, according to luke as we just heard proclaimed.

So we hear from them, both of those on this piece of the ascension, and it is interesting how luke treats the reality of the ascension in these two books.

In the first reading in the acts of the apostles, he says that jesus ascended to his heavenly father 40 days after the easter sunday.

But in the gospel, he describes his appearance to disciples to disciples on the easter sunday night, the day of resurrection.

Then when he spoke and ate with them, and then went out to bethany, for his ascension.

So it almost seems like, his physical departure wasn't just a one-time event.

As again in the gospel, that we just heard, that he ascended on easter sunday.

It seems, but in the asked 40 days later, which is about where we celebrate it now.

And so, it is on that goodness that we know that perhaps a variety of different appearances, of the resurrected christ to his disciples.

To those closest to him.

In that 40 day period of time.

And that the ultimate, the final ascension, and leaving them, was as we celebrate it, now, about 40 days after the easter event.

So we are reminded though, that jesus withdraw from this world, and with his ultimate ascension, wasn't so much about an absence, but the proclamation of his presence in a new and powerful way.

Accessible to all, as a life-giving spirit.

And so, ascension may be considered to be like the great and, amd, and that really is the connector from jesus birth, his life, his death his resurrection.

All of his teachings as he mentions in the gospel.

All of his ways he was a proclamation of who our god is, and who we are called to be.

And his people.

So, it is that connect door, between again, his ministry and the one that you and i are called to.

Basically by our baptism, but as disciples of the lord, we are called to be faithful.

To go closer and closer to the lord, and to be his physical presence in this world.

And so, there are two great promises that we hear on this feast of the ascension of the lord.

The first being, when he said in the gospel that i will send you the holy spirit.

And if that spirit which we celebrate next sunday on the feast of pentecost, that would be a guide and sustenance of the whole church.

Down to us, and celebrating through this television mass on a sunday morning.

And so it is that goodness, that we continually grow into a great openness to the power and presence of the holy spirit within us, and among us.

Grow more dependent on that very gift that the lord gives to us.

The second promise, is what is now made possible for us.

And we hear that in the words of that second reading, from paul to the ephesians.

Beautiful words.

May the eyes of your hearts be enlightened.

That you may know what is the hope that belongs to his call.

What are the riches of glory in his inheritance among the holy ones?

And what is the surpassing greatness of his power for us?

Who believe in a quartz with the exercise of this great mike.

So it is in that goodness, that we hear those words, the eyes of your heart.

So the lord does not want us to have lots of knowledge about who our god is and sacred scripture, the traditions of the church, but the lord always wants to dwell within our hearts, in the very core of our beings.

And that our faith, is not about philosophies and just about theologies, it is about a relationship.

Our heartfelt love relationship with the lord.

And how many ways that we are challenged to live the promises that the lord gives to us on this feast of ascension.

But over and over again, so that we continue to do, just like those apostles and our earliest sisters and brothers on those first christians.

That we simply gradually grow in our understanding.

But most powerfully, to grow in our relationship with the lord.

And to allow us to make the lord's ways our ways each and every day.

So that it is just a matter of who we are, as his witnesses in our world by whatever we say and do.

Proclaiming the truth.

That is the life of the church, that is the life of each one of us, part of the body of christ.

And so on this feast of ascension, may the lord continue to bless us as we live that dignity of our faith, and enliven within us that very presence and power of the holy spirit.

And so we profess this great faith of the church.

I believe in one god the father almighty, maker of heaven and earth.

Of all things visible and invisible.

I believe in one lord, jesus christ.

The only begotten son of god.

For the father before all ages, god from god, light from light, true god from true god.

Begotten not made, substantial with the father.

Through him all things were made.

For us men in our salvation, he came down from heaven.

And by the holy spirit, was incarnate of the virgin mary and became man.

For our sake he was crucified under pontius pilate, he suffered death and was buried.

And rose again on the third day in accordance with the scriptures.

He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the father.

He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end.

I believe in the holy spirit, the lord the giver of life, who proceeds from the father and the son.

Who with the father and the son is adored and glorified who has spoken through the prophets.

I believe in one holy catholic and apostolic church.

I confess one baptism for the forgiveness of sins and i look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come.

So let us prayerfully offer our petitions for our needs and those of the whole world.

For the lord jesus, the king of glory, conqueror of sin and death.

Ascended today to the highest heavens as the angels gazed in wonder.

You are indeed holy, o lord, the fountain of all holiness.

Make holy therefore these gifts, we pray by sending down your spirit so that they may be come for us the body and blood of our lord jesus christ.

At the time he was betrayed and entered willingly into his passion, he took bread, and in giving thanks broke it, and gave it to his disciples.

Saying, take this, all of you and eat of it.

For this is my body, which will be given up for you.

In a similar way, when supper was ended he took the chalice and once more giving thanks, he gave it to his disciples saying, take this all of you and drink from it, for this is the chalice of my blood, the blood of the new and eternal covenant.

Which will be poured out for you and for many.

For the forgiveness of sins.

Do this in memory of me.

The mystery of faith, we proclaim your data lord, and profess your resurrection.

Until you come again.

Therefore as we celebrate the memorial of his death and resurrection, we offer you lord, the bread of life and the chalice of salvation.

Giving thanks that you have held us were they to be in your presence and minister to you.
