Protesters Gather Outside Philadelphia Senator's Office as Part of Nationwide #CloseTheCamps Rallies
Protesters gathered outside the office of Republican Senator Pat Toomey in Philadelphia on Tuesday, July 2, as part of nationwide protests against the detention of migrant children at facilities on the US-Mexico border.
The #CloseTheCamps protests were organized by the progressive advocacy group MoveOn.org, which listed 184 demonstrations across the country on its website.
Senator Toomey was criticized for his proposed reintroduction of legislation to ban sanctuary cities in the US to curb immigration.
On Tuesday, protesters shouted “shame on Toomey” outside the senator’s offices.
They also read out the names of migrant children who have died in US custody.
